SALES TAX
Residents of Maine must pay 5.5% sales tax and a $33 title fee (title fee applies to vehicles newer than 1995 only) which Fryeburg Motors collects at the time of the sale. These fees go directly to the state and we provide you with the appropriate forms to take to your town hall showing receipt of these payments. This is the same tax and title fee you would pay at town hall when registering your vehicle. Some dealerships charge documentation fees, licensing fees, and other fees. We do not charge any additional fees...ever. Out of state residents will have to pay any taxes and registration fees to the state in which they reside; Fryeburg Motors does not collect any taxes or fees from residents of states other than Maine.

PURCHASING FROM A DEALER OR PRIVATE PARTY
Fryeburg Motors prides ourselves on offering quality vehicles at fair prices. You have the choice to purchase a pre-owned vehicle from a dealer or private party, however, understand the differences. As a Maine licensed pre-owned vehicle dealer, we are regulated by the State and held to a specific standard of service which includes insurance, bonding, facilities, and your right to arbitration. Each dealership can be regularly audited for compliance by members of a unit from the State Police. Additionally, all our vehicles are sold fully detailed, with a new inspection sticker, and a 14 day temporary license plate; all at no additional cost to you. There is little consumer protection available when purchasing from a private party and you must make arrangements in advance for an insurance binder and legal registration.

BOOK VALUE
Book Value, Blue Book Value, Kelly Blue Book Value (KBB), NADA Book Value (National Auto Dealers Association) are all common sources of vehicle pricing. These are useful resources for the insurance industry to help set rates and compensate for loss as well as the financing industry to gauge loans and rates. Fryeburg Motors doesn't typically reference these pricing structures because we feel they don't necessarily apply to our specific market. We prefer to price our vehicles for the current market, similar to the method in which real estate is priced. There are many factors that affect the price of a vehicle including the season, geographic location, demographics, economic environment, and availability. You can be sure our prices are fair and reflect the current market value.

COMPREHENSIVE USED VEHICLE REPORTS
CARFAX reports and the like can be one source of information to help you make a purchasing decision. Fryeburg Motors does not offer CARFAX reports although we will willingly provide you with the vehicle's VIN, necessary to run a CARFAX report, which you may choose to do at your cost. We occassionally have access to CARFAX reports for certain vehicles and in those cases we will share the report with you at no cost. Fryeburg Motors typically deals with vehicles that average ten years old. Any major damage to a vehicle of this age would render it a total loss and any major repairs performed early in it's lifetime would have ample time to prove their effectiveness. It is for these reasons that we see limited value in a CARFAX report on the majority of our vehicles. Also, understand that a CARFAX report may not always be complete. Service performed outside the dealership or insurance network may not appear on a CARFAX report, which is increasingly the case with older vehicles. Use a CARFAX report if you choose but we recommend using it as only a part of your decision making process.

PRE-BUY INSPECTION
We are happy to bring the car into the shop, put it on the lift, and let you look it over at no cost, with prior arrangements so we can be sure to have a lift available. Fryeburg Motors also thoroughly inspects each car and our technicians fill out a Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection Form noting any discrepancies found and any service performed. However, Fryeburg Motors is also happy to assist you complete a pre-buy inspection at a facility of your choice and at your cost. We can recommend reputable independent mechanics in our area or you are welcome to use the mechanic of your choice within a reasonable distance. We ask that you make an appointment wherever you decide to go as a courtesy to the mechanic and to minimize everyone's time. We will bring the vehicle to the facility you choose and meet you there or your mechanic can furnish you with a report after the inspection. The mechanic's job is to thoroughly inspect the vehicle and he or she will give you an idea of it's current condition and any future needs or maintenance. Our vehicles are typically priced to reflect their condition however, if the inspection reveals issues that we were unaware of, we may negotiate the price or repair the vehicle. Normal wear and maintenance items are to be expected on a pre-owned vehicle. One last note to consider when scheduling your pre-buy inspection: some mechanics are also licensed used car dealers and derive a significant portion of their income through the sale of used cars. It can be a conflict of interest for some of these shops to perform an objective inspection on another dealer's vehicles. Certainly, there are many mechanics who can offer their fair, unbiased opinion of a third-party vehicle in this situation, but, in our experience, there are also those who cannot. If you are comfortable with your mechanic and he also sells vehicles, you may want to consider one of their vehicles first or consider scheduling your pre-buy inspection with a dedicated mechanic.

TRADE IN
We do accept trade-ins towards the purchase of your vehicle. Please understand we cannot offer you retail pricing for your vehicle. In addition to the administrative costs involved in reselling your vehicle, we must invest in any mechanical and cosmetic repairs to bring it in line with the standards we employ for our retail vehicle sales. Should your previously owned vehicle be sold on our retail lot, our asking price will reflect what we paid you for your vehicle, our investment, and a reasonable profit. If your vehicle is in less desirable condition or something for which our customer base isn't interested, we would wholesale your vehicle to another dealer or at auction which is still a considerable investment in time and potential repairs. To maximize the price you get for your vehicle you may want to consider selling it yourself. The payoff for your time and effort is typically more money in your pocket and Fryeburg Motors is happy to offer helpful advice to assist you in accomplishing this.
